Scott Bauhs broke the four-minute mile Saturday, accomplishing
something no runner has at Chico State and joining an elite group of
about 300 American runners. Bauhs made the four laps around the track in 3 minutes, 59.81 seconds. "It was hard," Bauhs said. "If I would have done that at some other meet, just some random meet where they put on a mile, I don't think I would have done it. It took everybody out here." The previous Chico State record of 4:01 was set in 1971 by Kim Ellison, who came out to support Bauhs as he broke the record. "It's about time," Ellison said of someone breaking the record.
